| Fred (Ernest) GRUMMITT | Fred writes 02/02: "I was sent to Huish`s School when I was 9 years old. That was in 1927. I was a boarder and attended the Lower School for a time until I was eleven. This was in the same school grounds, but was just a long wooden hut. Outside the hut were 2 old army canons.
The school motto was "Spe certes quo Melius" (sic)*, I expect that has changed. Mr. Arnold Goodliffe was our Headmaster. His wife attended to the needs of the boarders, who could not have been more than about 10 in number at that time. I have a school photograph, which includes all the boys & masters at that time. It was taken in January 1929 and includes Mr. Goodliffe himself. I doubt if many of the boys in that photo are alive today, I am 85 next July. I left the school in 1922". Fred's e-mail address is fred@poetfred.co.uk * Spe Certa Quid Melius |

I emigrated to Canada in 1970 and have lived here since then, currently in Ottawa where I work for the federal government...it has been a wonderful experience and I have seen more of the world than I would have dreamt of. "I stay in touch with Roger Vickery, and certainly remember Alan Saunders, Dudley Mason, Stuart Sayer, who I also knew in primary school,Ben Munford, who I thought had plans to be a policeman in Hong Kong, to the consternation of Ginger Rutt, Tom Pritchard, Richard Hardy etc." Gerald's e-mail address is jernauld@yahoo.com and we have since received some reminiscences |

Went to St. Catharine's Cambridge in '74 and after graduation trained for the Anglican Ministry. I was ordained priest in 1981 and remained in the C.of E. | Martin HOWE | Martin has revised his entry, (2/04): 'I left Huishs in 1984 after 5 years at the Grammar school and 2 years of A
levels. I was never inspired by Bill Maidlow to go to university, though he
had a damn good try at TELLING me I should go. Instead I joined the County
Council. Once I got used to life in the 'real world' I realised that County
Hall was not for me. I got a job with a finance company, which lead to a
role with Renault Finance. During this time I met and married a local girl, Fiona [sister of Nicola Tarr who did A levels at the same time as I], and started a family which now aspires to two girls, a dog and a cat! I went on to run the admin side of the Renault Finance branch in Bristol before leaving to join Fiat Finance, where I went back in a sales role. Within a year I had moved into an IT management role where I stayed for 6 years until being made redundant in the summer of 2003. At this point I took my life in my hands and set up my own computer services company [I.T. Know Howe], which at the time of writing is going in the right direction and looks like providing a future for the family. I still enjoy my rugby, though my playing days are sadly over. If you have the need you can contact me at martin@itknowhowe.co.uk (new address 02/04). |
