PROPOSED REUNION Gerald Hooper, with Dudley Mason, Ben Munford and an old teacher, J Hitchens, proposes a casual reunion for the group that entered in 59 and/or left in 64 or 66. M to R
M David MAGSON David was at Huish for 3 years from 1961 to 1964 and is interested in contacting anyone there at that time. Previously, he went to Surrey University (Industrial Mathematics), spent 9 years with the NCB in Operational Research, 5 Years with NCCM on the Zambian Copper belt and 5 Years in Australia with Hammersly Iron.

David has written again, 11/03 , with a new e-mail address (the link above has been updated) and the following notes:

"Hi - I think it is about 8 years since I last wrote and would like to give an update. I was at Huish with Jim Scott, John Skelton, Eric Rowe, Gerald Licence and others and would like to hear from them. Those were the years from 1961 to 1964. I now live in Bali, Indonesia and run a software development company http://www.mitrais.com .
"After leaving school I went to Surrey University (Maths), spent 9 years with the NCB in Operational Research, 5 Years with NCCM on the Zambian Copper belt and 5 Years in Australia with Hamersley Iron, 12 years with PT Mincom Indoservices in Jakarta Indonesia and the last 3 years in Bali. Bali is a wonderful place to visit despite the bomb in 2002. Please contact me if you come on holiday here.
"I am also chairman of a charity set up after the bomb http://www.ykip.org if you are looking for a cause to donate to. In 2003 I was awarded the MBE:
'Finally, I know you will want to join with me in congratulating YKIP’s chairman David Magson who was created a Member of the British Empire (MBE) in the recent Queens Birthday Honors List in recognition for his work with the victims and families of the Kuta bombing tragedy.

Kevin Lovett, Secretary
Yayasan Kemanusiaan Ibu Pertiwi (YKIP)
Humanitarian Foundation for Mother Earth
Bali - Indonesia'

[The above quotation was added by me, not submitted by David. Hearty Congratulations, David! - Ed.]

"The person I kept touch with most after leaving school was Ken Potter but unfortunately lost contact about 5 years ago. The incident of the teacher and the fireplace mentioned by Gerald Hooper is true - it was done by 5c in 61/62; my good friend Ken was in that class (I was 5b). That poor teacher was also victimised in other ways.
"My sister Sheila went to Bishop Fox's and now lives in Wales - if any wished to contact her I can give her email address. It is old Huishers by the way, is it not* - I for one now have 7 grandchildren!

"Best Regards - David Magson"

* - don't worry, David. Lots of us are older than you! Ed.

Nick MOUNT Nick, 1992-94, wrote: I have completed my geography and geology degree at Bristol University and I'm now in my second year of a PhD in fluvial geomorphology at John Moores University in Liverpool.
An update 12/00 I completed my PhD last month and am starting a new position as Lecturer in GIS at Charles Sturt University, New South Wales, Australia. This means that I will be immigrating on a permanent basis from January. At last some decent weather!
Nick's e-mail address will be nmount@csu.edu.au.
A further update 04/02 Now based in Wagga Wagga in the dust of inland Australia. Spending a lot of time trekking (and just occasionally skiing) in the Snowy Mountains, undertaking extensive expeditions into the hills looking for ice to climb (not one of my smarter activities in the current climate), climbing on and falling off of some of the finest quartzite rock around, flying about in a small Cessna aircraft with no doors and researching methods of applying GIS technology to the extreme high altitude environment as well as lecturing undergraduate and postgraduate students at CSU. Such an idyllic life, but one without women, just the occasional wombat! So, to remedy the situation I managed to find a wonderful girl called (wait for it) Matilda in London and we are engaged to be married sometime in 2003. This means another move is on the cards in the coming months.
Georgina MUDDITT Georgina writes from Surrey where she is now working with an Internet Marketing company near Guildford. Although she didn't complete her course here due to the move, she will be particularly remembered for her acting.

RRJA (Bob)NESBITT Bob writes (2/01): "I started at Huish's in 1941and worked for a while with accountants, including at the old Hambridge Brewery/Lorna Doone Cider Co. and ended up working for Post Office Supplies in Bridgwater. While at the school I lived in Langport and travelled on the old H&C bus. The Post Office or as it ended up for me BT sent me to Birmingham and then Swindon. Have been in Scotland since 1982 but wouldn't go back to England. It's too full of people"
He adds: "I had intended to come to the dinner last year but wrote to John Nash to say I wouldn't because of the fuel crisis. It may have been to the good as I think the dinner coincided with the flooding".
"I have a list of those starting the same year (from the magazine) if you're interested at any time". Bob's e-mail address is bobnesbitt@btinternet.com

Peter NICCOL Peter joined the 2nd year at Huish in 1971 having returned to the Uk from Cyprus. He forgets the name of the class teacher for that year but for the next 3 it was Mr Baker. He subsequently moved to London to join the Met before moving back south in 1986 to continue his career with Avon & Somerset Police.
He has bumped into Nick Jarrold, Alan George, and Gary Holmes over the years, but none since and would particularly like to get back in touch with John Grigg who was a great friend until they went their separate ways in 1976.
Peter's e-mail address is peter@niccol.co.uk
Colin NICHOLAS Colin writes, 02/04: "I have only just got the web address from a friend, as you will see from the attachment I have the 1951 original school photo which still resides in its cardboard tube with the price label still intact.

"The picture was scanned from the original by my son on a Fuji Lanovia flat bed scanner, with file sizes from 18 megs for a mono picture to 80 for a colour scan, ok I know the original is black and white, but this was a belt and braces scanning session.

"Now to the point, if anyone is interested in copies I'll try to find a photo studio willing to make copies from the CD Rom.

"I hope this may be of help to some of my old school friends, I have already made a paper copy with an Epson printer which had to be taped together, for Brian Parsons, not the best way of doing it".

Thanks for your kind offer, Colin. Will anyone wishing to contact Colin please use the following address: colin.nicholas@ntlworld.com

Wayne OLDHAM Wayne writes, 01/03:
"I was at Huish's from 1971-1978 and have only just found the contacts page. I have already been in touch with Richard Miles and hope to contact a few others of that era as a result. I only ever wanted to be a Pilot or a Policeman when I left school, so I joined the RAF after A levels, got a Commission and flew jets for a while both as a Pilot and Navigator, before I realised the awfull truth... I suffered terribly from airsickness! In 1980, the day after my first solo jet flight I met the perfect girl up in York near where I was based. I left the RAF in late 1982 and married that perfect girl... Cindy and I have recently celebrated our 20th wedding Anniversary.
In early 1983 I joined the Derbyshire Police as a Constable and found it to be the most frustrating, terrifying and ultimately the most satisfying job imaginable. At present I am doing the "Heartbeat" thing in the little Market town of Ashbourne on the Staffordshire border where straying sheep is still quite a big deal...
I retained my RAF Commission and now run an Air Training Corps Squadron at Clay Cross near Chesterfield, with responsibiliity for over 40 staff and Cadets. Cindy and I find that it is better to borrow other people's children for a couple of hours twice a week, rather than have any of our own. Our "babies" are a sellection of mainly rescued animals which we keep on our 8 acre smallholding at Birchover in the Derbyshire Peak District... last time I checked we had 2 donkeys, 4 pet sheep and a pony. We also have a loose assortment of household pets round the fireside at night... bliss!" Wayne can be contacted at wayne@pc1383.freeserve.co.uk

P Family PACKHAM It was a pleasure to discover that Howard is a member of the 1996/97 Lower Sixth. She has news of Olivier de Marion (see also Graeme Short below) and Charlie Cannell, qv. Her sister Bronwen has begun a career in theatre and after Howard there is one more member of the family still to come to Huish.
Stefano 'Steve' PASTORELLO Steve writes, 09/03: I'm writing from Italy. I attended Huish's in the years 1964-1970.
In response to your call for photographic material ... I still have a few photos from those years, but I think they're mainly of scenes from Huish Drama Club plays, some of which I acted in. The club was run by 'Jake' Harewood and John Dyer in those days.
I'm fairly certain I have a good shot of a scene taken during the dress rehearsel of 'The Playboy of the Western World' (1966?). I think it was taken by Mr Smith (maths teacher).
When I get the chance I'll buy a scanner and see what I can do ... It would be an interesting idea to install a photographic section in the Old Huishers' site. That would be fun.
Steve's address is alkahest@tin.it
