As noted in the Contacts pages, Gerald has been in touch from Canada
He now writes, in a couple of shortish notes, of some of his recollections of the old school. We await his further recollections with trepidation!"Amazing that Jake Harewood is still going.. he was grey-haired when I was there.. it is good to hear of people who keep on ticking. I will refer my sister to the Fox's page, since she was there from about 57 to 63.
Memories will come slowly..I remember the treck down to Rose Meadows for sports.. a real joy in winter. I remember Garland G-J who is mentioned in Dudley Mason's page, who was a seat mate in the 5th form and shot me in the a**e with an air pistol as I cycled past him on my way home.. great shot by a good guy... who also became a reliable source of real scrumpy when we were older. Later my home was right around the corner from Bob Branton when I was in university..strange how teachers become real people when you get older.. I also remember Peel-Corbin getting his shirt slashed in the yard by a very angry pupil...violence is not just in today's schools!!
I will be checking in and will offer more interesting recollectios as they bubble up".Later Gerald added:
"Thanks for your note.. I recall Terry Hunt, though he was older, and I always thought his father was terrific...an object lesson in the softspoken exercise of authority.
"I had a very helpful note from Dudley Mason, who gave me many references which I am following up.
"I also had a sudden memory of a poor teacher who was reportedly put behind the fire guard (remember the old coke stoves?) and taunted by a more senior form.. sad.. we could be right sods in our day too. As well, I recall a poor pupil who was teased and bullied mercilessly...Ginger Rutt found out after weeks of it, took the poor victim to every room and flogged the bejeezus out of anyone identified...crude by today's standards."
