Frank Huish, the writer of the above article, has heard from a lady in Indiana in which she mentions a family tradition that they are somehow related to Anne Hyde, daughter of Edward Hyde, later Earl of Clarendon, and who married James, Duke of York who became James II of England. His correspondent, Kathy Huish, also mentions George Hyde Huish who went to America and fought in the Civil War. He has further discovered that the parents of George Hyde Huish viz. John Huish and Frances née Olpin, had several children christened in St Pancras, London - including George.Huish CharitiesFinally, Frank poses a most interesting question: 'Wouldn't it be strange though, if this Kathy Huish was proved to link back to Richard Huish - as well as Queen Anne! [Note: Queen Anne was James II's second daughter; her sister Mary became the wife of William III - BP] Remember that the College is founded on money that came in from Huish holdings at Blackfriars around about the era of Queen Anne'.
Needless to say, any further information about this or any aspect of our benefactor's family - or indeed any reasonable conjecture - would be more than welcome. You never know, someone out there may well be able to fill in any gaps in your knowledge! Please address any details to me at oldhuish@richuish.ac.uk.
